| Многие века Православная Церковь основывалась на общинной жизни, чаще всего жителей одной деревни. Общение между священником и прихожанами было очень тесным: они вместе молились, вместе занимались сельским хозяйством, вместе воспитывали детей. Дети росли в церковной среде, с детства обучаясь в приходской школе, участвуя в хоре и в богослужениях. Текст богослужений, порядок богослужений был родным и знакомым с детства. Священник не воспринимался как некий чужеродный объект в родной среде.
В сегодняшней американской реальности подобная форма церковной жизни почти отсутствует. Результатом этого является, Наша цель – это попытка хотя бы частично исправить данную ситуацию. Мы не ставим перед собой глобальных идей создания апостольских общин или романтического копирования деревенской жизни из глубины веков. Мы хотим предоставить возможность семьям, исповедающим православную веру или только задумавшимся вечном немножко глубже соприкоснуться с церковным богослужением, принять в нем участие, иметь возможность провести несколько дней один на один со священником, обсудить свои семейные вопросы и самое главное увидеть свою семейную жизнь как главную и высшую ценность для спасения души и защиту от бед в земной жизни. |
Traditionally, the Orthodox Church is based on the local communal life. This allows for a wonderful and close communication between the priest and his parish: they pray together, work together, and bring up their children together. Children have the opportunity to grow up in the church, go to the parish school, and participate in the church choir and divine services. In this way, the texts and order of divine services become known from early childhood and feel familiar to the entire family. With this kind of a vibrant church community, the priest himself is not perceived as some kind of an alien visitor, but truly as the Spiritual Father of the community!
This form of church life, however, is almost nonexistent in today’s American reality. As a result, there is a great ignorance and lack of understanding of the divine services. Today it has become common even to be physically present in the divine services while being mentally and spiritually somewhere else very far away. Also the parish members often no longer have any real connection or communication with their priests and clergy. Instead, there is an increasing lack of appreciation of the purpose of church life and of the Church itself, along with a lack of appreciation of the family as the “Small Church” where the spouses and family members daily serve God by fulfilling His commandments. Our desire and purpose at the St. Innocent Retreat Center is to try in some small way to improve this situation. We do not have global goals of recreating the apostolic community or romantically copycatting the rural life of the Middle Ages. Instead, we want to provide Orthodox Christian families with the opportunity to learn more about the divine services, participate in them, spend more one-on-one time with the priest so they can ask him any questions, and gain an increasing appreciation of their family life as the main value for the salvation of their souls and protection in this life. |
